HISTORY:
St. Lucia's traditional pottery has its roots in the potters of the Arawaks, Caribs, and Africans. It is difficult to pin down exactly what comes from where, because many of the world’s pottery techniques have many elements in common. The influence of Caribs, is reflected strongly in the areas that still carry on traditional potting. Today, the Choiseul community is the main centre and is known for the presence of Carib blood in its people. Today, traditional potters are all women.
